Victim suffers brain injury in accident

Massachusetts residents know that brain injuries cause life-long issues such as memory problems and personality changes. Even a seemingly minor head injury can cause long-term problems for accident victims. Recently, a boy suffered a minor head injury while riding his bicycle. He was struck by a pickup truck and suffered head injuries in the collision.

Sources say that boy was rushed to an area hospital, where he was treated for arm injuries in addition to his head injuries. Authorities did not anticipate filing criminal charges related to this incident. It apparently occurred when the truck driver was headed eastbound and hit the boy when his bicycle was in the middle of the intersection.

Even if no criminal charges are filed, that doesn't mean the driver is free from responsibility for the accident. Those who suffer from brain injury in accidents like this one sometimes have the right to sue for medical bills and other damages in civil court when evidence documents that the injuries were caused by the negligence of another party. Sadly, brain injuries are sometimes so severe that victims may find themselves unable to support themselves financially.

In this case, authorities didn't specify exactly what type of head injuries the boy suffered. His families will likely face medical bills associated with this accident, at the least. As a result, they may familiarize themselves with the boy's legal rights in relation to this truck accident. Once the official accident investigation is completed, the right advice may help the family decide what steps they may wish to take. They may have the ability to seek monetary damages from all parties whose alleged negligence caused or contributed to the boy's serious injuries.
