Massachusetts wrong-way car accident kills 1, injures another

Wrong-way automobile crashes have been in the news in recent weeks. Drivers who take to the roads in Massachusetts and elsewhere know that there are inherent dangers involved in driving, and most take some form of precaution against the devastating effects of a car accident. Whether by reducing speed, wearing a safety belt or driving defensively, many people use proper caution while on the roads.

It can be difficult to prepare for a wrong-way crash, however. In one terrifying instant, another car suddenly appears in one's path, closing the distance with horrifying quickness. Encountering a car or truck on the wrong side of a highway or street is a hazard that most drivers are ill-equipped to respond to rapidly enough to avoid a collision.

One recent wrong-way car accident took the life of a 58-year-old Massachusetts man. Early reports indicate that he was traveling the wrong way on the I-93 Frontage Road near the Tip O'Neill Tunnel when he struck two other cars. The driver of one vehicle was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the incident, while the operator of the third car was uninjured. The wrong-way driver was killed, however, after apparently being thrown from his vehicle.

The investigation into this car accident is ongoing. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the injured driver who survived the crash may have the ability to pursue damages from the wrong-way driver's estate. Such a legal action could help with medical bills, continuing physical therapy needs and property damage resulting from the crash.
