Massachusetts hit-and-run car accident kills bread truck driver

When a driver is involved in a car crash, he or she is expected to remain on the scene, render aid if possible, call for help and wait for emergency responders to arrive. These actions are not only outlined by law, they are also the basis of simple human kindness. However, not every driver chooses to follow those rules, and an astounding number of drivers involved in a serious car accident will simply leave the scene. This scenario recently played out in a fatal Massachusetts crash.

Police believe that the accident took place in the early morning hours of a recent Sunday. A bread truck delivery driver was working his route in Worcester, Massachusetts when he was struck from the rear by a Jeep. The 45-year-old delivery driver was rushed to a local hospital for treatment, but he died as a result of injuries sustained in the wreck.

Witnesses to the crash told police that the Jeep never even stopped at the scene. Police were able to follow a trail of automotive fluids that leaked from the Jeep following the collision. The trail led them directly to the driver's home, where he was arrested on charges of drunk driving and leaving the scene of an accident. Additional charges could follow.

Families who experience this type of sudden loss should know that they have options available. While nothing can bring back a lost loved one, there are legal avenues that can help a Massachusetts family to recover damages that result from a fatal car accident. When negligence is involved, a wrongful death suit can assist the family in covering costs such as medical care, final expenses and property damage. This is often not a priority in the days immediately following a tragedy, but is an option if needed in the future.
