Horrific car accident ends the life of college student

When Massachusetts parents send their children off to college, the event signifies a transition between childhood and adulthood. Even so, most parents continue to worry about their children during this transition, and still hold a multitude of fears concerning their child's safety. For one family, a recent car accident made the worst of those fears a reality.

A 21-year-old student at Framingham State University was struck and killed in a recent pedestrian accident near the school. Early reports indicate that she was attempting to cross Route 9 in Framingham on a recent Friday night. She made it approximately halfway across the road when a vehicle struck her in the eastbound lane.

The force of that impact threw her body into the westbound lane of traffic, where another vehicle struck her. She was unable to survive the grave injuries sustained in the incident. The Framingham Police and Massachusetts State Police are working to reconstruct the scene of the crash as part of their ongoing investigation into the events that led to her death.

As of yet, no criminal charges have been filed in the matter. Should the Massachusetts investigation point to negligence as a casual factor in the car accident, the family of the victim may decide to move forward with a wrongful death suit against one or both drivers. While no legal action can bring back their lost child, a successful wrongful death suit can help the family to recover damages associated with their loss, and could also serve as an additional measure of justice in the case.
