Settlement finally made in Massachusetts fatal car accident

The family of a Massachusetts man killed in a 2006 car accident has finally reached a settlement with Universal Construction and TD&I, a licensed Massachusetts auto inspector. The settlement is for $750,000, which is to be divided among the man's wife and four children. The end of this long legal process may bring a sense of closure to the loved ones left behind by a terrible fatal car accident.

The crash took place when the 63-year-old former Massachusetts lobbyist was leaving a restaurant parking lot. He crossed over Route 28 with the intent to turn east, as a construction truck approached in a westbound direction. The truck crossed the center line and crashed into the man's vehicle, ending his life.

Upon investigation, authorities found that the rear brakes on the 18-year-old truck were not functional at the time of the crash. The construction company claimed that it had sent the truck for inspection just 10 days before the incident, and that the inspection facility did not notify the company of an issue with the function of the brakes. The inspector was found to have not performed a field test on the brakes, and claimed to be unaware that such testing is required under federal rules.

The settlement of this case demonstrates a successful outcome, even though the legal process worked extremely slowly in this instance. However, now that the case is completed, the family can move forward with a sense of closure, and can utilize the money from the settlement in any way they wish. While no amount of money can bring back their loved one lost in this fatal car accident, the settlement can go a long way toward having the defendants accept financial responsibility for the Massachusetts crash.
