Apparent drunk driving car accident injures pedestrian

One man is likely counting his blessings after surviving being hit by a car. In the vast majority of car versus human collisions, the news report involves a fatality. However, in this Massachusetts case, the 72-year old man was able to survive his injuries. Police have arrested the driver who struck him and charged the man with OUI, operating a motor vehicle to endanger, OUI causing serious injury and leaving the scene of a crash in the suspected drunk driving car accident.

Based upon the initial investigation, police believe that the driver struck the man in the moments just before 4:15 p.m. on a recent Friday afternoon. He then continued to drive on without stopping to render aid or wait for emergency response. A witness reportedly followed the driver and brought him back to the scene, where he was arrested.

When asked why he left the scene, the man replied that he was unaware of what had taken place. This is despite having allegedly run over a human being in full daylight. Testimony by the eyewitness is likely to play a pivotal role in the criminal case against the driver.

As the Massachusetts criminal case against the driver moves forward, additional details may become available. For the man who survived the car accident, the road to recovery may be long, as he reportedly received severe pelvic injuries in the crash. However, should he decide to move forward with a personal injury suit against the driver, the outcome could help him recover the cost of his medical care and future physical rehabilitation needs.
