Woman dies in pedestrian vs. car accident in Massachusetts

Around 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5, police were called to the scene of an accident involving one car and a pedestrian. When police arrived, they found a seriously injured woman lying in the street. The woman later died from the injuries she suffered in the pedestrian vs. car accident.

The victim received medical attention almost immediately and was taken by helicopter to a Massachusetts hospital. Despite the best efforts of both emergency medical personnel and the medical personnel at the hospital, the woman's succumbed to her injuries and died at the hospital sometime later the same day as the crash. She was 42 years old.

The driver of the vehicle that struck her did not exhibit any injuries at the scene. A reconstruction team with the Wisconsin State Police was requested to conduct the investigation at the scene. No word regarding charges, if any, that may be filed was reported. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact the Tewksbury Police Department.

The apparent vulnerability of pedestrians makes any injuries they receive in an accident with a vehicle that much more life threatening. Many pedestrians may leave the scene of a car accident alive, but the possibility that a pedestrian could succumb to injuries that were not apparent at the scene remains high. What may begin as a personal injury claim by the victim can easily become a wrongful death claim by the victim's family. In either case, it will be necessary to prove that the party or parties deemed responsible for the accident were, in fact, negligent under Massachusetts law. Once negligence is proved, the court typically considers claims for monetary damages sustained.
