Massachusetts State Police detectives and the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS) are investigating a crash that took place in Scituate recently between a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle in tandem with local authorities. It is too early to tell whether charges are going to be filed in connection with the motorcycle vs. auto accident. County prosecutors will make that determination once it is believed all of the pertinent information has been gathered.
Information gathered to this point indicates that as the motorcycle was traveling south, a vehicle pulled out of a driveway and crashed into the motorcycle. The motorcycle rider suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Sadly, a lifelong friend of the victim was driving the vehicle right behind the motorcycle at the time of the crash.
The accident occurred just a couple of days prior to the motorcycle rider's 28th birthday. He had just purchased the bike earlier in the month. In the aftermath of the crash, the victim's aunt spoke to the media about his loving nature and the closeness he shared with both his family and his friends. Those same family and friends are now forced to deal with his loss well before they should have.
It could take some time for investigators to issue their final report regarding this tragic motorcycle vs. auto accident. Even then, no guarantee of criminal charges exists. The family may seek their own sense of justice through the filing of a wrongful death claim, seeking damages such as funeral and burial costs, pain and suffering and any other damages allowed under Massachusetts laws. To prevail in that type of claim, it will be necessary to prove the car driver negligently caused the fatal crash.
